HABAKKUK, EPHESIANS, AND CURRENT EVENTS
Wow!!! Where do I begin? As the news began circulating about the draft of the majority decision regarding Roe vs. Wade, my mind immediately turned to the sovereignty of God. Dear friend, I want you to know that God is at work in this and so are the principalities and powers of which Paul speaks in the book of Ephesians, and if I may, I would like to tell you what I think, biblically is happening, but before I do, I feel I must share briefly some terms you might hear over the coming days.
You will be and are hearing about enumerated powers and the reserved power clause. The enumerated powers are those powers that were specifically given to the federal government by the US Constitution, including the right to declare war, the responsibility to protect freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom to peaceably assemble, and the freedom to worship as a person so chooses. There are many other enumerated powers, but the powers I listed give you an idea of powers that were given to the federal government. That brings us to the Reserved Power Clause, or the 10th Amendment.
The Reserved Powers Clause gives to the states those powers that are not clearly enumerated and listed in the Constitution. For examples, laws regarding marriage, education, and abortion, among others, would be covered under the 10th Amendment because those things are not specifically listed or enumerated in the Constitution; therefore, the states have the ability to pass laws regarding those things. As you can see, constitutionally, the Roe vs. Wade decision was not legal from its inception because each state should be, according to the Constitution, allowed to pass laws governing education, marriage, and abortion, and 62 million babies have died as a result.
With that as background information, I would like to share with you biblically what is happening and why Christians need to realize that it is God who is in charge. I am going to share three verses with you that are important to what I am going to tell you.
Habakkuk 1 : 5 (AMPLIFIED)
[The LORD replied,] “Look among the nations! See! Be astonished! Wonder! For I am doing something in your days— You would not believe it if you were told.
Acts 13 : 41 (AMPLIFIED)
‘Look, you mockers, and marvel, and perish and vanish away; For I am doing a work in your days, A work which you will never believe, even if someone describes it to you [telling you about it in detail].’ ”
Ephesians 6 : 12 (AMPLIFIED)
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood [contending only with physical opponents], but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this [present] darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly (supernatural) places.
In reading this past year I came across this statement that sums up what is going on daily:
“The Holy Trinity never meets in emergency session.”
How true that statement is!! God Almighty is in control. Can I explain biblically what I absolutely believe is going on with this leaked information? I knew you would say yes. Christians need to be thanking God this morning for His sovereignty. Many Chiristians since the last presidential election have been wringing their hands over the outcome. Many have favored open revolt, but dear friend, God is in charge. Remember, what Paul wrote in Romans.
Romans 13 : 1 - 2 (AMPLIFIED)
1 Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God [granted by His permission and sanction], and those which exist have been put in place by God. 2 Therefore whoever resists [governmental] authority resists the ordinance of God. And those who have resisted it will bring judgment (civil penalty) on themselves.
If we accept the Bible as God’s Holy Word, then we must believe what it says in regard to the governing authorities, and Habakkuk is telling us that we would not believe what God is doing even if God Himself told us. With that being established, God ordained Donald Trump to be President of the United States and Donald Trump fulfilled His God ordained purpose. What was his purpose? I believe, according to Habakkuk and Acts, that God ordained Donald Trump as President so he could be the President to oversee the appointment of three Supreme Court justices who, if this leak is true, will make up of three of the five majority votes to overturn Roe vs. Wade, as Habakkuk’s voice echoes through the ages to us, “I told you that you would not believe it.” Dear friend, God is in charge. As a Christian, you do not have to worry about political solutions to problems because God is in your corner, and He is in charge of this universe. We do not need to give problems over to politicians that only God can solve.
With that being said, I believe the leak can be explained biblically too, and dear friend, if you are a Christian and your first reaction to the leak was to blame a politician, then you have missed the point that Paul was trying to make in Ephesians. Our enemy is Satan, and those principalities and powers at work in this world are from Satan, and the enemy is not the clerk that leaked the draft. The enemy is the god of this age as Paul describes him in Second Corinthians. When the news of the leak started circulating, I can almost promise you that most Christians were upset at that person instead of realizing that leak was a call to pray to God Almighty that His will be done. We tend to look at the Bible as a history book and a prophecy book, but dear friend, the Bible is a book of current events too, and the same warnings and ways to victory God gives throughout the Bible are just as relevant today as they were in the past and will be in the future.
Churches, well I know Beech Grove did, united in the fall praying for the God of the Universe to move on the Supreme Court regarding the upcoming decision regarding the Mississippi abortion case. Do we not expect God to answer prayer?
The Bible says that we are to pray expecting a blessing. It all makes sense biblically to me, and dear friend, you better believe the principalities and powers of this world are going to ramp up their attacks on the unborn in the coming days, and as Christians, we are not to rely on any political party or the Supreme Court. We are to put on the whole armor of God and pray that His will be done, and if we do that, the principalities and powers of this world stand no chance.
